Chat with Dragons: Classic MUDs, Modern Platform. A red dragon holds a keyboard in a torchlit dungeon beside a glowing terminal.

A modern home for classic MUD worlds—preserved, hosted, and opened to a new generation.

Classic worlds. Modern doorways.

Preserve what matters

CwD is built to run and host established MUD worlds without discarding the command-driven depth, persistent places and distinctive rules that made them worth preserving.

Welcome new players

Browser and Discord play add maps, graphical environment elements, character views and audio around the text. Traditional MUD clients remain welcome in the same shared worlds.

Operate on a modern foundation

Discord identity replaces a separate game password. The server remains authoritative, and administrative and world-building access is controlled by scoped account roles.

Now featured: Legends of Fate.

This EmlenMUD world began in 1996. Read where you are and type what you do: try look, walk north, ask who is about, or type play to enter the live realm.

CwD surrounds its classic command-driven play with a map, a graphical view of the room, your character sheet, audio, and a party to share it with.

Legends of Fate III: The Reprise

A war older than any kingdom, and it has never once paused.

Light and Darkness have fought over these lands for longer than anyone has kept count. Crossroads change banners from one week to the next. Towns are taken at dusk and lost again by morning, and every fighter who falls leaves something behind in the mud.

The Scavengers make their living from what's left. They never join the fighting. They watch from the ridgelines and the tavern doors, cheering on whichever side they favour, and wait for the dust to settle. Then they pick over the battlefields and strip the wilds for ore, hide and timber, and forge it into gear no guild smith would think to make, shaped by the heroes who will carry it. They sell only to the few they trust, and that trust is hard won.

The war won't last forever. Every fight is live, Light and Darkness are fair game to each other on sight, and whatever you carry can be taken from your corpse. In the end, one side takes everything.

  • The Light

Hold the old cities, keep the roads, and drive the dark back to the edges of the map.

  • The Scavengers

Never lift a blade in the war. Watch from the sidelines, egg on the side you favour, and pick over whatever the fighting leaves behind.

  • The Darkness

Take what the Light can't hold, and keep it by any means you like.

Which side will you fight for?

Inside Legends of Fate

One shared world

Towns with shops, inns and temples; roads, wilds and castles. Thousands of rooms, and everyone in your server walking them together.

Down the wells

Every town has a well, and every well leads down into a dungeon. The fighting there is live, just like up top, with trapped chests and floors that get worse the deeper you go.

Pick a side

Good and evil may fight each other on sight. The neutral walk between them, untouchable, though the homelands' guards won't let them in.

Getting started

  1. Join our Discord server first. It is CwD's community: meet players, follow platform and world updates, form parties, and get help.
  2. Play the featured world in your browser, launch the Chat with Dragons Activity, or type /play after adding CwD to a Discord server.
  3. Want access from another server? Add the CwD bot to one you manage. Every entry point reaches the same hosted Legends of Fate world, and your characters and gear travel with you.
  4. Roll an adventurer, pick a side, and step out into the Realm.
  5. Rather use a MUD client? Connect to dragonchat.app 4000 with TinTin++, Mudlet or plain telnet. Mudlet users can add our automapper.

Play from a MUD client

Point any MUD client at dragonchat.app 4000. The game sends colour, and a map to clients that read GMCP.
